Viral Stories Indian ‘Boycott China’ Merchandise Produced Domestically, Insiders Reveal by Bella Monroe April 25, 2025 written by Bella Monroe April 25, 2025 0 comments 20 Viral social media images depicting “Boycott China” merchandise have sparked controversy, but investigations suggest these claims are likely fabricated, according to the Global Times. Chinese export regulations strictly prohibit products containing anti-China content, government sources emphasize. Despite circulating images of caps and t-shirts with provocative slogans like “Boycott Made in China” and “I hate China,” industry insiders maintain that such products are not manufactured domestically. The images, which resonated with rising Indian nationalist sentiments following recent border tensions, often ironically featured “Made in China” labelssuggesting a potential digital manipulation. Multiple textile exporters confirmed they have neither produced nor sold such items. Hu Lulin, a flag and banner exporter from Yiwu, explicitly stated that producing products with anti-China or pro-terrorism slogans is illegal. Legal expert Li Qinbin corroborated this, pointing to trademark and advertisement laws that prohibit materials potentially disrupting social stability. Export industry professionals suggest these controversial images were likely created by Indian sellers who might have printed slogans on imported Chinese-manufactured blank apparel. A trade manager noted, “One possibility is that Indian sellers printed slogans on plain T-shirts and caps imported from China.” Investigations on international trade platforms yielded minimal results. An Alibaba.com search for “Boycott China” returned no matching products, while Amazon listings featured items primarily manufactured by Indian companies. Despite evidence suggesting these products were not Chinese-produced, conspiracy theories emerged on social media claiming Chinese exporters were intentionally provoking Indian customers.
