Grammy-winning artist Billie Eilish recently sparked widespread attention after a controversial social media post caused a substantial drop in her Instagram following.

The now 23-year-old singer’s Instagram account(now at 124M followers),  after publishing photographs featuring primarily nude body drawings,s howed around 72.9 million previously boasting 73 million followers. These posts seemingly irritated her fan base, prompting some to unfollow her.

Within a single hour, the singer lost nearly 100,000 followers after sharing an unexpected image during a popular 2020 social media challenge. When prompted by a fan to share a drawing she was most proud of, Eilish posted a sketch featuring nude women’s figures, accompanied by a witty remark.

The image, which featured two topless women on her phone’s lock screen, caught many followers off guard. One user commented, “BYE NOT HER LOSING 100K CUZ OF BOOBS,” to which Eilish playfully responded, “LMFAOOO y’all babies smh.”

Despite the significant follower loss, Eilish remained unapologetic. In a recent interview, she addressed the incident, critiquing the public’s expectations of her image. “People hold on to these memories and have an attachment,” she explained. “But it’s very dehumanizing. I lost 100,000 followers just because of the boobs. People are scared of big boobs.”

This isn’t the first time Eilish has challenged public perceptions. In May, she graced the cover of British Vogue, showcasing a dramatic transformation with blonde hair, a corset, and a fitted catsuit.

With her current Instagram following at 124 million, the incident highlights the ongoing scrutiny public figures face regarding personal expression and body image.
