The 44-year-old actress, who joined “The Big Bang Theory” in 2009 as Bernadette Rostenkowski, found herself in an unexpectedly awkward situation during her early days on set.

During a 2013 appearance on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, Rauch candidly shared her embarrassing first-episode incident. While shooting a scene in a hotel room bed, she instinctively behaved as she would in her personal life – pulling covers high and warming her hands.

“I’m always cold under covers,” she explained, “so I tend to warm my hands like a boy scout starting a fire.” However, this habitual gesture took an unintended turn during filming.

Understandably mortified, Rauch called her mother – the inspiration behind Bernadette’s distinctive voice. Her mother’s reaction was predictably dramatic: “I hope people understand you weren’t really doing that! People have been fired for less!”

The incident became a running joke, with Rauch’s mother repeatedly warning her to “keep your hands to yourself” during subsequent work stories.
